Summertime and the livin’ is easy? Today I am not so sure. With outside temperatures in the high 90’s and in the 100’s, and soaring humidity or smoke-filled skies from nearby forest fires adding to the overload by retaining heat in the lower atmosphere, humans are easily pulled out of balance. Is it too hot to be happy? I ask this question because I have noticed a lot of cranky people in the last 24 hours  – at the restaurant where I ate lunch, at the fitness center this morning –  people expressing discomforts, buttons having been pushed and tempers recording displeasure at something or someone. It felt like a scene out of “The Twilight Zone” in which everyone drank bad water or didn’t get enough sleep.  It seemed to be the time to pick a fight with someone.

So what’s going on for some of us? What’s causing nerves to be “exposed” and tempers to flare? Certainly our environment is influencing our biology when it is too hot outside. Oriental Five Element Theory says that when the Fire element, which relates to Heart/Small Intestine functions in the body becomes overwhelmed (too much heat, high temperatures), the Fire element energy begins to back up into the element that usually energizes it, in this case the Wood element (relates to the Liver/Gall Bladder functions in the body.) When Wood element is out of balance, tempers may rise and explosive energies build up.

With energy medicine self help you can always shift into the direction of the internal stability of homeostasis (definition: “the tendency of a system, especially the physiological system of higher animals, to maintain internal stability, owing to the coordinated response of its parts to any situation or stimulus that would tend to disturb its normal condition or function.” dictionary.reference.com)

Healing is here with a great summertime or any time circumstances become overheated Healing Touch Quick Step – Little Finger then Index Finger then Middle Finger. This Healing Quick Step helps you modify your response to the heat and bring you into the healing zone. And while you are applying this Quick Step sequence, consider this: What makes you happy? One thing. Bring it into your conscious memory recall. Breathe and smile.

First hold your Little Finger for a while. Then hold your Index Finger on the same hand for a while. Then finally hold your Middle Finger on the same hand for a while. Then switch sides and hold the other hand Little Finger, then Index Finger, and finally Middle Finger for a while on each finger too. And keep in mind a very happy thought that makes you smile inside and out.

Here is one of my happy thoughts.

I’m swimming amongst a pod of wild dolphins off the Kona coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. Moms with babies and many, many dolphins have surrounded me and are swimming with me – above me, beside me, below me. I begin singing in my mind with sounds coming through my snorkel like humming a melody.  I have put myself into a state of pure joy with my inner singing, the sounds of the ocean, the clicks and squeaks of the dolphins, and the sound of my breath through the snorkel. I feel my life is complete in this moment.

Is it too hot to be happy? If it is, it’s time to reverse the trend from overheating to increasing cool within the instant healing zone with a Healing Quick Step and a pleasant thought.

Keeping it simple with many blessings for your health and wholeness, Barbara
